King David had just heard the news of his son’s Absalom’s death. What you’re hearing is the cry which comes from a heart overwhelmed with grief and sorrow. CAN YOU FEEL THE PATHOS? Have your eyes watered with tears recently? The things that make you cry tell a lot about your value system. Our Lord Jesus wept openly twice. The first time was at the tomb of Lazarus. There He wept quietly. Then He wept openly over the city of Jerusalem. Jesus knew what was in their future. He knew that within 40 years the city would be devastated and hundreds of thousands of people slaughtered. IT BROKE HIS HEART! Watch this; the Greek word that is used to describe His weeping this time, speaks of bitter anguish as though one were mourning for a dead spouse. His disciples must have been amazed.
When was the last time you cried before God about something that breaks His heart? MAYBE IT’S TIME TO TAKE YOUR SPIRITUAL TEMPERATURE? If you haven’t wept before God in a long time, maybe you need to repent of a hard heart. You know what; the harder your heart has become, the deeper you will need to repent. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you a sensitive, repentant heart that weeps over the things that grieves the heart of God.
