Psalm 32:5

Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.”
And you forgave the guilt of my sin.

Where do you fall on the spectrum of being able to admit that you are wrong and ask for forgiveness? Is that something that is easy for you to do, or are you like me where you struggle a little? If I am being honest, sometimes I struggle a lot. It isn’t easy being wrong, but add to that you need to admit your wrong doing and ask for forgiveness? That can be a little sticky at times.
But it’s necessary.
There is freedom, grace and forgiveness that is released in and over our lives when we acknowledge our sin to Jesus. He doesn’t call us to be perfect. Jesus knows that we are going to mess up, it’s part of our nature to rebel and be selfish, and gratify our own desires regardless of who gets hurt in the process. And us asking for forgiveness isn’t used as a behavior modifier, but as a means for us to recognize our need for God and to draw closer to Him. One of the ways to draw closer to God is to be honest about our sin and shortcomings and in humility ask our good Father to forgive us. It isn’t easy and it’s not fun but that’s because of our pride. Our pride is one of the reasons we deflect or blame shift instead of being honest. After all who likes to admit that they are wrong? But when we truly understand and accept that we are secure and loved by Almighty God unreservedly, that He will welcome us with open arms when we come to Him that should make us freer to admit when we mess up. At the end of the day, nothing can separate us from the love of our Father. He is faithful and will forgive the guilt of our sin. Always. But he can’t forgive what we don’t acknowledge.
