There are so many things in this life that causes us to feel uncertain and causes what we think is steady ground to crumble and fall underneath us. We can seek shelter in the things we can see, touch and feel because they look sturdy. Perhaps they have worked really well for someone we know so it makes sense for us to put our trust and dependence in them as well. But we aren’t always that quick to focus in and lean fully on God in times of uncertainty. While that could be for many reasons the truth is He is our only firm foundation.
Look at the life of King David. He’s had really high highs and some epic lows but the one thing that didn’t change, regardless of what He was going through was his trust and dependence on God. He wasn’t perfect and there were times where he failed but his first response was to bring whatever it was he was dealing with or facing to the Lord. He understood on such a deep level that no matter what he was facing, the only way to get through it was by keeping his eye on God. Nothing else. Not his friends, or the advice of his friends or even things he thinks look secure. It was God or nothing, and David was never put to shame and never shaken. Did crazy things happen in his life? Absolutely, but he was never shaken because his eye was on the Lord.
