There is something about Christmas that gets me excited. The music, the food, I even think the air smells different. Speaking of music, there is a song that absolutely gets me hyped whenever it comes on the radio: “It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” by Andy Williams.
While the song is fun and happy go-lucky, the truth is the holidays for many people is completely opposite to The Most Wonderful Time of the Year. It’s a time of deep sadness, despair and grief.
That’s why I find the truth of this verse so comforting. It is the promise of Immanuel: God with us. In whatever state we may find ourselves in. Whatever circumstances we may be drowning in, God is with us, and not only is He with us He is able to take us through. We are not alone in our pain, Jesus is with us.
If it is wisdom we need, He is the Wonderful Counselor, able to give us the insight and guidance to heal or make changes in order to heal.
If we need a warrior, someone to fight for us He is the Mighty God. Nothing is impossible for Him, he is able to make a way when it seems like there is no way out.
For those of us who are without a father He is our Everlasting Father who offers us unconditional love. In Jesus we have love that we don’t ever have to work for and love that doesn’t change depending on His mood or what we do. He loves us unconditionally and that’s all.
And for those of us who struggle with anxiety, loss and pain, those us who dread the holidays because it drudges up all the feelings we want to lock away, Jesus is our Peace. He is able, in whatever we face to give us peace that surpasses all we understand. A peace the envelopes us and holds us safe. A peace that allows us to hold confidently to our hope because He is our sure foundation.
For to us a child is born – A Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Whatever aspect of Jesus you may need a fresh revelation of, know that He is right there with you ready and willing to provide you what you need.
