Are you struggling with feelings of loneliness? Does it feel like these are the only emotions you’ll have for the rest of your life? Your situation is not hopeless. Jesus knows what it feels like to be abandoned, betrayed, and isolated. He understands because He experienced the same things when He was on earth. Hebrews 2:14 declares, “Since all his “CHILDREN” have flesh and blood, so Jesus became human to fully identify with us.” Remember that Adam was ALONE in the Garden of Eden; but there was no indication that he was ever LONELY. Interestingly, the word ALONE appears 118 times in Scripture, but rarely is it synonymous with the word LONELY. We were created to live in relationship with each other and with God.
My precious friend; if you have drifted away from Jesus Christ and the comfort of being filled with His Holy Spirit, then return to His loving embrace with confession and repentance. This is the first step toward overcoming the negative emotions of loneliness. Looking to anyone other than the Lord Jesus Christ in the midst of your loneliness leads to disappointment and a greater sense of anxiety. St. Augustine once said, “YOU HAVE MADE US FOR YOURSELF, O GOD, AND OUR HEARTS ARE RESTLESS UNTIL THEY FIND REST IN THEE!”
