So you’ve tried to live a righteous life and yet stuff happens for which there seem to be no answers. When a crisis strikes, the first impulse for many is to run. Countless people ruin their lives in an attempt to escape their problems. Some have become addicted to drugs and alcohol because they repeatedly turned to these harmful substances for a few moments of relief. THIS IS NOT GOD’S WILL!
Precious soul, you can go on being righteous. And you can stand against the evil schemes of the enemy in the power of the Christ. How? LOOK TO THE LORD! He is the only one to whom we can look when the foundations of life are shaken, and He is the one to whom we must look if we are to stand firm in unsettling times. Trust in the Lord is an antidote for life’s threatening dangers. HE IS YOUR TRUE FOUNDATION! Somebody once said: “In trusting in God, the sparrow becomes an eagle, mounting above the storm, and delighting itself in the eternal sunshine of the Father’s face!”
Charles Wesley knew it. He wrote of times like these:
Other refuge have I none,
Hangs my helpless soul on thee;
Leave, ah! leave me not alone,
Still support and comfort me.
All my trust on thee is stayed,
All my help from thee I bring;
Cover my defenseless head!
