Have you ever been going about your day when the Holy Spirit pops something in your mind? That’s what happened to me with Hebrews 13:5. As I was going about my business, in pops this thought: ‘Do you really believe that there is no time at all that I am never NOT with you?’ I stopped what I was doing and allowed the truth of that to wash over me like a wave. There is no point at all, in my entire life that Jesus is not with me. Not even a millisecond!
In Psalm 139:7-12 King David says it so wonderfully “where can I go to run from your presence?’ Then he goes to list these extreme places where no human could survive and even there, God is present. When he says He will NEVER leave us He means under no circumstances. There is nothing that could happen where He would turn His back on us and leave us to fend for ourselves. Think about it: before you and I came to know Jesus, when we were the farthest we could be with Him, there He was, right there with us, calling us into His loving embrace. How much more will he stay with us as his kids?
Let the truth of Hebrews 13:5 really wash over you. Close your eyes and allow yourself to hear the voice of Jesus saying “I will never [under any circumstances] desert you [nor give you up nor leave you without support, nor will I in any degree leave you helpless], nor will I forsake or let you down or relax My hold on you [assuredly not]!”
