Some years ago, I saw a sign in a store by the cash register. It read ‘In God we trust, all others pay cash.’ I chuckled at the humor of the saying. Obviously the store people had, had trouble with the poor credit of some.
The word “trust” means to lay down on. It has the idea of putting one’s complete weight on something. It’s much like what you do when you sit on a chair, and all of your weight is resting on the ability of the chair upon which you are sitting to hold you up. Trusting in the chair to hold you up wouldn’t mean much if the chair couldn't actually hold you up.
I think there would be a lot less pain in life if we would start with trusting God, rather than in someone else, or something else. The proof that we don’t trust God even though we declare that we believe in Him is that we turn to other sources first to address life’s problems. What you trust is where you go first. You can always discover what you trust because you go there first. If it isn't God, it will always end in disappointment .
Trust in your friends and they will let you down. Trust in money and you can lose everything in a moment. Trust in reputation and some slanderous tongues will blast it. But trust in God, and you are never to be confounded in time, or in eternity.
“But Why should we trust in the Lord first?” Well, because God is faithful, He can be trusted, He keeps His word.
Romans11:33 declares, “Oh, how great are God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his ways!”
The reason that you should trust in the Lord is because His wisdom is infinite. There is nothing about what you and I are going through that is beyond his ability to understand and to help us bear. It also means that nothing takes him by surprise and He is never left scrambling to find a solution. He always has the answer because He is the answer
There of course will be times that we waver, or even doubt that God understands what we’re going through. Difficulties have a way of lifting focus from God to the issue making it seem impossible to overcome, but with God that is simply not true. He cares and He understands and in desperate time, it’s only by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, that we can keep our footing when we feel like we are slipping.
Yes, there’s going to come a time when all your theology will turn upside down. There’s going to come a time when you won’t understand where God is and you may feel surrounded by such darkness you can't see your hand in front of your face. That's when you double down on what you know - TRUST HIM!”
