What is it that you are worried about today, at this very minute? What are the things that have crept into your mind and have set up residence, causing anxiety? Is it job security? Health crisis for you or for someone in your family? Problems in your marriage or the fact that you’re past the age you thought you’d be married and there are no prospects? Do you feel stuck where you are or are things moving so fast you’re not sure you’ll ever catch up? If I am honest I have worried about almost all of these things and more at one moment or another. I also know that it’s futile to worry. Matthew 6:27 says “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” The answer – no, no I can’t and yet, sometimes I find myself having to talk myself off the ledge because I am giving myself over to worry.
But why? Why do I worry? Have you ever thought of that? I mean really stopped and asked yourself, what is it that I am REALLY worried about.
I’ll go first: I think I am really worried about whether or not I’ll be ok in the end. After the dust settles, will God really take care of me? Which is nuts because he proves time and time again that He is faithful and He is good and while I KNOW that, sometimes it take a while to remind myself of that in the midst of what is a new challenge in my life.
Matthew 6:30 says “If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?” The truth is we have a good, GOOD Father, one that takes care of us on a level I don’t think we can fully understand and even in times when we are hurt or feel pain, He is able to redeem and make beautiful those awful moments. So what are you worried about? Bring it to Jesus and allow him to replace it with his wondrous love and peace.
